Prepare the box and workspace
Close the gift inside a firm rectangular box and secure the lid if needed. Clear a flat, dry surface. Lay the wrapping paper pattern-side down and place the box upside down on it, so the final long seam will sit underneath. Keep scissors out of children's reach.

Lay the wrapping paper pattern-side down and place the box upside down on it, so the final long seam will sit underneath. Keep scissors out of children's reach.
2. Measure and cut the paper

At each open end, leave enough paper to reach just over halfway up the box end when folded. Re-centre the box and cut away excess paper. Check the fit before cutting; too much paper makes bulky corners.
3. Make a straight seam

Pull that side over the first edge so the paper fits snugly without tearing. Tape the overlap with small pieces of clear tape, or hide double-sided tape beneath the hem.
4. Fold and close the first end

Press the paper inward against the two narrow sides of the box end, creasing along the box edges to form an upper and a lower flap. Fold the upper flap down, then fold the lower flap up over it. Fold its raw edge inward if needed and secure with a small piece of tape. Keep the folds flat against the box.
5. Close the other end

Keep the box centred and the paper snug as you work. If a flap is too long, trim a little before closing it, leaving enough overlap to tape it securely.
6. Check and finish the wrapping

Gently press along the edges to sharpen the folds and check that both ends stay closed. Cover a small tear with a matching paper patch, or rewrap if a larger tear exposes the box. Add an optional ribbon or gift tag after the paper is secure.
